Online Shopping Scam Reporting

Taxonomy Code: FN-1700.1470-640

Programs that provide a hotline, website or other mechanisms that people can use to report scams involving bogus websites or mobile apps that attempt to lure consumers into purchasing items that are shoddy knock-offs or never delivered. Many faux e-stores impersonate well-known retailers, with logos, slogans and URLs that are easily mistaken for the real thing. They offer popular items at a fraction of the usual cost and promise perks like free shipping and overnight delivery. Clothing and jewelry, furniture and home decor, electronics, cosmetics, health and nutrition, and pets are among the most common categories of products in shopping scams, according to the BBB. Some scammers may seed malware within sites, apps, pop-ups and email coupons that infects the victim's device and harvests personal information for use in identity theft.
